I visited this park twice a year as a child in the 70’s, usually Memorial Day Week and Labor Day Week. It brings back my fondest childhood memories. Your photos brought me quite a bit of nostalgia: The gun-toting, pipe-smoking Ranger Beckman, swimming in the river with its sink holes, catching catfish and perch upstream and downstream in the wee hours, movie nights with a projector on the outdoor big screen, where we’d roast marshmallows on the giant campfire after the movie, helping collect trash in the old firetruck, and getting my Jr. Ranger patches (badges). We camped with 1-2 other families every summer and that was family vacation when I was a kid. I hope McConnell is still open.
