You just never know who will show up at a garage sale. Wifey and I had a garage sale this last weekend. A couple of other neighbors joined in by setting up shop at their garages. It’s a lot of fun cajoling with the neighbors and all the other towners in the area. We had a very successful day and sold most of the bigger ticket items. I also met some really nice folks. This one fella, Larry, came by and was interested in one of our big sale items. I immediately could tell he was a car guy, sporting a ball cap and t-shirt with a past car event pic on it. We got to talking and found out that his last project was a ‘73 Vega. Well, if you know car people or are one yourself, that was all the information that was needed to begin a car conversation that could have lasted all day. There is just something about car people. We can feel the car vibe emanating from other car people. We are one with the universe when talking about cars.
Larry, was very excited about telling the Vega story and how it all came together. This five year car project started off as a stock Vega that was last used by a college student to get back and forth to school. The car was discovered at Klode’s wrecking/insurance salvage yard in Denver which is now the Mountain West location of Total Resource Auctions. Larry is a body shop guy with 30+ years of experience. So, when he found this car it must have posed a challenge that he just could not pass up. Larry did all the fabrication work, body work, painting, framework, blood, sweat, and tears. One of the highlights that really make this little car stand out is the split bumper up front that is ala ‘73 Camaro. Very nice touch.
This beautiful little Vega is for sale. The asking price is $23K. It has a Chevy 350 V8 drag engine that was taken from a modified Chevy S10 pickup. The transmission is a Turbo 400 with shift kit. A peek at the rear underbelly will reveal 9??? rear with 456 gears and Detroit Locker posi setup. The body wraps around a complete roll cage to keep you safe and cozy when you romp on the accelerator pedal to smoke those big 16??? wide, 33??? high tires. For $23K you can have yourself a hot little car that is totally street legal.
